A new canvas
I’m excited to share that I’ve joined Anysphere to help shape the brand and visual identity of Cursor.
OpenAI was the ride of a lifetime, and I’m grateful and privileged to have been part of it. For six and a half years, I gave it everything I had. On a good day, if I’m being generous, I let myself believe that I contributed in some small way to what it’s become today.
Thank you to Ben Barry and Jack Clark for taking a chance on me, and to many others who supported me over the years. I tend to think that I’m the same creator I always was, but just was extremely fortunate to get an opportunity—that I did meant everything. Cold emails do work, sometimes.
This update comes a couple months late. Work and life have been busy, sure, but more than anything it’s taken until now to process and reflect on a difficult and emotional decision.
It’s not easy to walk away from something you helped build, and I’m proud of the design I contributed at OpenAI. I used to think it would be the most impactful work I’d ever do. Now I think: maybe it was just the opening act. And maybe I’m not walking away so much as running to. I have a rare chance to do it all over again, to be along for another wild ride.
I’m enjoying the new adventure on the other side of San Francisco.
We’ve got something special brewing at Cursor: a great product (which I use every day), a great team (the highest concentration of talent I’ve ever seen), and great momentum. I only hope to do it justice and build on the tremendous success so far through the lens of brand design. I have my work cut out for me—somehow I keep doing this to myself—but am looking forward to the challenge. Can’t wait to share more soon.
Thank you to the Cursor team—especially Ryo and Michael—for the trust and belief in me. I’m honored, humbled, and hungry to prove myself once again.
Go towards good vibes. Trust the process. Here’s to act two.
